We’ve been struck by the lack of crowds – both downtown where the protest area has been sparsely populated, in no small part due to the formidable difficulties of navigating a walled city with a fierce police presence, and in the Convention Hall itself.
Day 2, like Monday’s premiere edition of the Convention, experienced an impressive emptying out of the Hall well before closing time, both by the stakeholders on the floor and visitors seated in the arena.
Overheard: one Utah delegate to another as they left the hall shortly after the roll call: “I’ll hold my nose and vote for Trump,” but clearly their level of support for the candidate was best exemplified by their departure.
